I've played Overwatch on and off since 2017, and have finally made the decision to be done with it once and for all. A weight has been lifted off of my shoulders.

In its current state, Overwatch 2 is one of the most tragic scenarios in all of gaming. The first game started out with such great promise and goodwill, and spiraled so far down into despair and disappointment as time went on. Its revitalization with the sequel offered some hope, but the game cannot escape the issues lying at its core. So let's talk about them.

As a game, Overwatch is by far the most team-oriented team shooter there is, to the point where its genuinely frustrating. You have to rely on and work together with your team SO MUCH to win, which provides for a gameplay experience like no other when it works, but that's the thing - it only works if you play the game with four other people that you know are skilled and can be in constant communication with. If you play with random people, this is the worst and most rage-inducing game of all time. Unfortunately, the game boils down to "whichever team has the worst player in the lobby will lose, regardless of the other players' skill", since you need to rely on your team so much. There's absolutely no way around this. I can play my absolute best, make no mistakes, outperform everyone on BOTH teams, and STILL lose because some random fucking guy on my team who is SUPPOSEDLY at my rank/mmr can't land a shot to save their life. It's the worst feeling in the world. It wouldn't be that bad if wins and losses weren't worth the same amount of rank up/down, I don't even understand why they are worth the same amount of progression, when you can 100% lose a game due to somebody else being awful, even if you were playing extremely well. It's completely asinine.

It's just so frustrating because the core gameplay is actually really fun! All of the heroes are diverse and powerful, and you will never play the same game twice. Shooting and movement feel so fluid and fast. The art style is gorgeous and vibrant, the characters are unique, the world is interesting. This game has everything it needs to be a genuinely fun time, but is completely ruined by the fact that it is impossible to play solo or in small groups. At that point, its just hoping that you don't get the worst player on your team when queueing for a game. It's complete luck.

Take all of this and add a middling live-service model with overpriced cosmetics, decent battle pass rewards but a pitiful amount of premium currency earned through it, and lackluster LTMs, and you've got a recipe for the most disappointing game ever. And now, with PVE being completely cancelled, there is no more justification for this game to exist. I tried really, really hard to have fun with this game, but I give up. I'm done.

Yeah took me 3 hours to start the game and then when I did it was just Overwatch again ew
