River City Ransom EX

released on May 26, 2004

The classic NES game returns with improved graphics and even more role-playing action. As in the original game, River City Ransom for the Game Boy Advance blends action, fighting, and role-playing elements into one game. You'll play one of two young heroes who must battle their way past city gangs and then defeat the gang lord to free the students of River City High. More than just a side-scrolling fighting game, River City Ransom EX features a character-building system and customization options. The Western version is a regional port of the Japanese version, since it uses the same storyline and identities of River City Ransom, instead of the stablished characters from Downtown Nekketsu Story and the Kunio-kun franchise.

they got the game stop artist to do the box art for this game. isn't that cool?

I struggled to understand the honor system well at the beginning, otherwise a really good remake in every way.

This GBA one is my favorite version of this game... what a blast

I want to play this game but why is the art the same style as old GameStop pre-owned cases?

Maybe the most underrated remake ever.

This is close to the original RCR on GBA, but there's SO MUCH ADDED! Increasing your stats is more coherent than ever, but they've added a ton of moves to the game you can collect which makes combat so much more fun and fluid than before. This is where the real meat and potatoes comes in. No longer do you have to wait for a block, or have some clunky break in the flow of combat due to an enemy hitting you with an item. It is insanely fun using the new moves to your advantage. The time it takes to save money to get them is pretty normal, not too long, not too short.

It's just insane how good this is and literally everyone skipped over it. You can play it like the NES original and make it a quick snack, or really sink your teeth into it. Plus the GBA tunes aren't bad either. Highly recommend this game to anyone who even remotely likes beat em ups.

A simple, linear pastime filled with secret unlockables to enjoy your whooping.
