S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Wind of Times is a standalone mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat.
One thing up front: this game is not a super modifiable sandbox like Anomaly and it doesn't want to be this anywany.

Story: In the year 2048, the Zone has taken over almost the entire planet. You are sent back with a time machine,
to find out what caused the spread of the Zone and stop it.
Once you arrive in 2014, you are intercepted by mercenaries and have to deal with some other problems before you can ask anyone about scientists, that might help you on your mission.

Unfortunately, the beginning is not so good. I can't blame anyone, who quit the game before reaching Yantar.
But as soon as you reach Yantar, the story really kicks off.
From this point on you will find yourself more and more and again and again questioning what really is going on.

To be honest, I was really surprised how well made the story is. It's really ambitious and the end, when the whole situation is explained, feels very satisfying.
There are no open questions, at least none that I can think of.
After the conclusion, you even get to see what will happen in the future with you, the Duty and Freedom factions and people you helped during sidequests.

The side quests are also very entertaining. Besides "kill mutants in this area" and "find my lost rifle in this area" there are some great questlines.
We have to find a cure for Forester, investigate a suspicious trader, find our doppelganger and more.
These questlines even expand the story sometimes.
They are even very rewarding. For one quest I got a Desert Eagle and for another a SCAR. Two really good and rare weapons.

A small negative point are unfortunately a few bugs, but what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. doesn't have any?
Unfortunately, one of them meant that I couldn't complete a quest, but it was only a side quest very close to the final part.

In terms of gameplay, this mod doesn't bring much new. You have to drink now and then, but nothing more. Personally, that doesn't bother me. If you want a hardcore survival experience,
there are plenty of other mods you can use.

The English translation is unfortunately not 100% perfect either, but I can overlook that.
It was made by one person in their spare time. The fact that not everything is 100% correct is totally fine.
What has not been translated quite correctly can be deduced from the context.

The intense darkness was also sometimes a hindrance. Often the flashlight is not enough and you have to use it together with the night vision device. Whether you have one or not
depends on the armour you are wearing. At night the darkness was not so bad, but in underground areas where you can hardly see anything without night vision and your flashlight,
it was more disturbing than scary.

Speaking of spooky: the new X-19 is really very nice and spooky and especially here the strong darkness is less disturbing, as it contributes perfectly to the mood.

If you are a fan of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., you should check it out. Don't let the rather not so good beginning scare you away, but give the mod a chance. It deserves it!
