I know the combat is rubbish in this game but I'm into the whole detective losing his mind and still somehow solving the case thing.

the main plot being more character driven and an examination of Sherlock's personal morality was great, and while I wasn't surprised that I enjoyed his dynamic with Jon, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed what they did with Mycroft. they did a great job humanizing him more and making him more sympathetic without detracting from the contentious relationship he has with Sherlock.

the only thing that really bothered me is that I feel like the solutions to cases were a bit too ambiguous. while I do like that you could follow the clues to different conclusions, and that Sherlock could apply his personal morality to the outcome, part of the enjoyment of mystery games for me is being able to actually solve it and know if I've come to the correct conclusion or not. so it was pretty unsatisfying that there wasn't a way to check it later. that said there was more that worked here than didn't, and I like that Frogwares is willing to take swings even if they don't all land.

also shoutout to the Death Note cosplay painting at the end, I nearly died laughing.

I love this game! The mechanics are so unusual and it really feels fresh comparing to the game market overall. It is interesting, the plot has some really unexpected twists and the game just consumes you. But I would like if there were more hints when you start to play.

One of the worst Sherlock Holmes games I've played, quite simply.

The story is uninteresting, the characters are not endearing. There is no canon conclusion to the cases, even the main one!
We can make choices sometimes but it has no impact on the rest of the story, so there is no point (except to win 2 or 3 steam achievements...)

The game's graphics are nothing special, the characters have no expression, and you can see that the few head models are reused everywhere.

I found the investigation system too complicated, impossible for me to play the game without a guide nearby. And then I just wanted to finish this game so I didn't bother

Why make an open world? There are not that many cases (which are as uninteresting as possible) and I find that there is a glaring lack of mini-map: I had to spam the pause key to be able to find my way on the map.

The music is redundant, especially that of the combat mode, which is actually THE worst gameplay element of the game: for me we could have done without it.
The arenas have the same shape, the means to knock out enemies are strange: why have to remove portoections from the arms and legs before being able to knock them out? Where is the logic ? Not to mention the only music during this phase which is just horribly redundant, and the 2 sentences repeated in a loop by Jon (a character who is also completely uninteresting)

I also find that we don't get attached to the characters at all, even Sherlock.

In conclusion, unless you want to play all the Sherlock Holmes games (which is my case) I strongly advise against this game (and don't bother buying the DLCs, which provide nothing apart from a 5 min game investigation )

I advise you instead to play "The Testament of Sherlock Holmes" and "Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishment" which are for me the two best Sherlock games to date.

Went into this game having my first taste of anything Sherlock Holmes related with very high expectations. The characterization of Sherlock being younger (but edgy, somewhat arrogant and giving me 14 year old athiest vibes) was refreshing, but I couldn't say the same for Jon. Dr. Watson not being around in the game was something...but Jon being imaginary? It almost sadly makes sense because Jon is useless; all he does is tease and belittle Sherlock. This is also the first game I've played where the open world concept didn't do anything for me and I actually grew to resent it. There's really nothing you can do with it and NPCs give you the same boring 5 lines when you interact with them so they're impossible to get clues out of or really interact with at all. The story did not hold my interest whatsoever nor did I understand it much, and I had no drive to do side cases/missions. I can appreciate a game that doesn't hold your hand, but this was so dull to me that I was reading through an online walkthrough almost the entire time which killed the game experience for me altogether. At that point, I gave up and it felt like a chore opening this game and trying to force myself to play through it for the sake of completing a game. I really don't see myself every picking up this game again.
