i havent finished this game because my computer cant run it well. but it does a good job at being a sequel, i think. it takes the main aspect of slime rancher and does it again, but does a twist on the other features of slime science and upgrades.

i dont really.. like the twist? i remember spending ages just finding the material i needed for the first upgrade that matters, the jetpack. i suppose it encourages you to explore a bit but i wouldve preferred to have the regular shop system back because oh boy did i not enjoy looking at all the cool, up high places while looking for a stupid bismuth ass rock.

the slimes are cute tho i lov the egg. and the SCENERY? fucking gorgeous they did an amazing job. but i do feel like the map is a little too big - i usually end up lost because a lot of the terrain in the first area feels the same and my internal map gets confused.

good game 5 stars no drama

The same game we all know and love, back at it again in a sliiightly different form. A lot has been added to make Slime Rancher 2 a worthy successor, such as a plethora of wonderful quality-of-life additions, much more ways to personalize your ranch, and more variety in how you care for different types of slime.

One change I'm more mixed on is, oddly enough, the visuals, which on an objective level look a lot better, and the exploration. It plays with shapes in much cooler ways, physics feel just a tad more natural, and the shading is (chef's kiss) simply marvelous. Then there's the matter of area variety, which I thought the original was a LOT better at. Whereas in that game every area has a unique color scheme, here they have a tendency to blend into one another, making exploration overall less enjoyable, pretty as it may be. It also relies FAR too much on teleporting between islands, compared to the original's areas all connecting naturally to one another, which by extension takes away the awesome sequence breaking you can do in that game, and...yeah, it loses me a bit.

As it stands, Slime Rancher 2 is still in active development, and will likely remain in the works for a few more years. It's a game I would recommend if you enjoy following update after update, but that I'd otherwise wait for the full game before playing. I hope that, by the end of its creation, it'll stand just as proud as its predecessor, but there's still some work to be done until then.

shouldn't have jumped onto this game in early access.

So bummed. This game did not give me the same sense of wonder and exploration that the first one provided. I'm bowing out now so I don't spoil the joy I had while playing the original.

(3/5) as of 6/18/2024. Might be better after more updates.
