The ultimate "Star Soldier" Collection that unfortunately never left Japan (and getting a copy now will cost a pretty penny).
The "PC Engine BEST" lineup are compilation games of a few series' the PC Engine (and in some cases the TG16) had to offer.
For this compilation in particular, it features four games of the Star Solider series, including
- Super Star Soldier
- Final Soldier
- Soldier Blade
- Star Paroldier
Every game plays extraordinarily well and faithful to the original counterpart, with Final Soldier being the weakest link in the chain (slightly stiffer, over complicated power-up system, slightly iffy hitboxes), which is still a good game in its own right anyway.
For me personally, this game was an amazing, physical, portable copy of one of my old favorites, plus three more thrilling games in the series that sated an appetite that I didn't know I had.
If you have the chance to check out these games in any way, I highly recommend it.
Oh, almost forgot. This is #13 on my favorite games list.
