A port of Tennis

Tennis is, as the name implies, Nintendo's version of the sport. One player vs computer or two players will compete in tennis in a more or less standard suite of rules (scoring, sets etc.). Players are controlled by the movement buttons, but while button A indicates a low hit, button B indicates a high one. You have the choice of four levels of computer AI, or two player via Game Boy link cable. The usual assortment of shots are available, including forehand and backhand, lobs and volleys when up close to the net.

Tennis on the Game Boy delivers a basic, but surprisingly enjoyable, tennis experience for its time. The controls are simple and responsive, making it easy to learn the basics of lobbing, volleying, and serving. While lacking in modes and complex mechanics, the core gameplay provides a satisfying and nostalgic arcade-style tennis challenge.

Tennis, or テニス, was originally released in 1984 and was ported to the Game Boy in 1989, which is what I'm going to talk about here.

It's a normal tennis game, without a lot of gimmicks or different modes, just the usual one-on-one game.

And like practically all sports games at the time, it's very basic and very... bad...

In the game you can walk and hit the ball, one button launches it faster and lower and the other launches it higher and slower, and that's all the strategy involved in the game, plus a lot of luck, plus the computer that sometimes simply becomes the best Tennis player in the world.

There's not much else to say about this game, the only notable thing about it is that Mario is the referee in it, which I thought was pretty funny when I saw it.

And my rating for the game is: 1 star.

they put tennis on Nintendo again. can't believe it

Yeah, I don't really recall the last time I played this game, and I never really enjoyed it to begin with. But alas, I'll never get rid of my cartridge for sheer nostalgia at this point.
