A remake of Wild Arms

Although it is essentially a remake of the original PlayStation version of Wild Arms, Alter Code F brings enhanced gameplay, improved graphics, and an expanded storyline to the PS2. Players take command of three unlikely companions in a surreal and desolate world called Filgaia. The young orphan Rudy has a unique ability to physically bond with "ARMs," or "Ancient Relic Machines," which seem to have been left behind by a forgotten civilization. The runaway princess Cecelia can command forces of magic, and the swordsman Jack is adept at a number of trades. These three "Dream Chasers" seek their fortunes in the unforgiving countryside, and might just end up saving the whole world along the way. The role-playing adventure includes overworld exploration and intense dungeon-crawling. Wild ARMs: Alter Code F is compatible with the PlayStation 2 HDD, so veteran PS2 gamers with older model consoles and the hard drive accessory can load the large, two-DVD game program to disk in order to decrease load times.

The perfect remake. Everything was treated with so much care and thought in this one, making an already amazing JRPG into one of the best games of all time. They expanded the game and incorporated some of the amazing system from Wild Arms 3, while still respecting the original game. Many things are just better: the text, visuals, OST that will grow on you, the already classic opening, and all the new extras, making this a joy to play and explore. Wild Arms is so great and this is the peak of JRPGs.

この調子で2以降もリメイクしてほしかったなぁー!

Awful localization in the west + cut content + full of glitches, that's sound good right?

A regretful abandonment in this case -- I somehow stumbled upon a bug in this game that crippled my ability to play the game reasonably anymore. Essentially, I had been running from fights that were either too easy or just frustrating and not worth the time for awhile and had built up an unusually high counter value for running.

I don't know if the bug is relative to that value, but when I was at sea, there was a point where I would start getting encounters every couple seconds and it was physically impossible to run from any of them anymore -- not because I'd taken advantage of the ! feature and was incapable of running. These were prompts that I should have been able to run from that would drop me right into battle without any hesitation, and with about ten times the frequency of the encounter-plagued sea travels of Suikoden IV.

The rest of the game up to that point had actually been fairly fun, but I'll probably never play this again. A shame.
