one of the best games to ever exist- change my mind

awful shovelware. never played a more boring game in my life (and i play a lot of bad budget games that i end up liking lol)

Wizards of Waverly Place, the videogame for Nintendo DS is basically a sort-of point and click adventure where you solve simple puzzles and utilize spells on certain objects, as well as play some mini-games along the way. The mini-games themselves are fine, making heavy use of the touch screen. You have basic mini-games for spell riddles, where you trace a line, or move your stylus in a straight line, then you also have the big boy mini-games, such as sandwich making, dodgeball, catching flying sandwiches/books or catapult. The variety is about right, the flying sandwich mini-game found early in the game later turns into a flying book mini-game that is pretty much identical, but it also doubles as a trivia quiz, you have spell a word that answers a question. I don't know the source material very well, but there's no real punishment for getting it wrong, there's no time limit for this mini-game, but there is time limit for other mini-games, but they aren't all that difficult. While the mini-game parts are fine, in-between you have some fetch quests or simple puzzles in the overworld, and sometimes, these feel like padding, the one moment that stood out to me is where you're tasked to find two keys for Prof. Crumbs' chains, all the way in the park and the theatre, and that felt very much like padding, you don't move very fast in this game. Even with that, the game is incredibly short. The game features character switching mechanic, but it doesn't contribute to the gameplay, it's simply for aesthetics, maybe there was an idea about using different characters for different puzzles that didn't get realized. I mean sure, they have unique outfits that can be purchased with in-game currency that you can find by touching certain areas, and you can also find gems that way, but that's it really. The game is nothing more than "it's alright" or worse, a typical licensed game for the handheld that has decent mini-games but doesn't offer a lot of substance beyond that. The graphics are about average, a few areas feature some stutters, the rendered cutscenes are kind of awkward, particularly the first one at the beginning of the game. The music is alright, but some tracks are quite repetitive, like the ones used for school and WhizTech and you'll be spending a bunch of time in those areas. Overall, it's just yet another average licensed game, nothing particularly amazing or terrible.
