Zoonomaly had almost everything going for it, the animator that made this game, makes some really nice, and really cool animations, and from what I've heard of him, he seems to be a really nice guy.

And, when I saw the trailer for this game, and heard of the idea for it, and realized an actual talented animator/creature designer was making it, I did get excited. The concept of this being a zoo taken over by evil variants of itself from another dimension, and you have to save it, could have worked out so good, and been amazing.

The character designs and animations are all really good, and the environments, you can tell there was a lot of care put into the finer details, with mainly every single monster design looking unique, and being quite interesting.

Sadly, the gameplay is just not fun. It really is not that fun, and gets repetitive, and maybe the issue is not that the gameplay is repetitive, I just think the main issue is that the gameplay simply isnt good at all. You will get caught in death loops from the safe areas, you can get caught through walls, enemies will despawn, respawn, and zip all around the place.

Most puzzles are easy, but the Monkey Tower one is exceptionally hard and there is a huge difficulty spike with some of these random puzzles. It's not that the actual puzzle is difficult, it's that the monsters are so fast, and kill you in one hit, that they are what make it difficult.

This game really could have been something special, it would be a game exactly for me, but the gameplay just drags down amazing artsyle's and design. Now, I do hope that in the future, either through a sequel, DLC, or a new project entirely, this developer can improve, and use this game as a main learning experience, that's what I hope, because I can sense a good creative vision here.

Overall: 4/10

I am quite a big fan of the person who made this as they make so really cool animated horror TikToks and YouTube videos. However, this game makes it painfully clear that game development is a big step up from animation. True to their nature, everything in this game looks really good and the monsters are really well designed and look decently scary. However, the main weapon against them takes too long to charge and you don’t run quicker than them, so sometimes you just get caught in death loops as once you respawn at a safe zone, they’ll come running over to you again and catch you the moment you leave. The puzzles are also quite fun the first few times but then become extremely tedious as most of them are parkour puzzles. The ones that aren’t are simple but scarier because it feels like there’s actually stakes. Doing the parkour would be a lot worse if it weren’t for the bulb teleportation mechanic. I am also glad you can use your tool to see where the key shards are, because if not it would’ve been so much worse. The plot is also simple yet interesting. As far as I know this was this animator’s first game, and I would say this isn’t a bad first attempt, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement.
