This game has some of my favorite game mechanics in the whole series. Unfortunately it's bogged down by boring single-player level design and I didn't exactly get to play multiplayer as often, probably one of my biggest regrets ever. Story is nonsensical and dumb and full of holes too lol
the ds versions are not great

The game is fun from the start till finish. The game has a fun combat style but is tiresome especially if you are like me and played it on hard mode. Game has a ton of fun extras with even 3 full episodes of the original g1 cartoon and art work. Voice acting is great especially nice having frank walker back as megatron. yes I have bias cause im a transformers fan and hey atleast its better then the movie.

I replayed this game and it’s definitely another underrated Transformers game that gets overlooked a lot. This game is a massive improvement over Transformers the Game from 2007 in so many ways.
My biggest problem with Transformers the Game was how incredibly simple combat is. You have your ranged weapons which almost every enemy and every boss blocks so it’s practically useless. You basically punch things to death. Bosses were insanely repetitive because you would have to throw a thing at someone to get them out of a special move they have so you can actually attack them.
How this game fixes that is by making it a 3rd person shooter. Enemies actually move around the field to shoot you and even climb buildings to get an advantage. Bosses operate in the same way and there were duo boss fights in the near end of the game in Egypt.
In order to make melee attacks as viable as ranged attacks, you have 2 advanced moves in the form of a melee attack and ground pound when transforming into robot mode. It is pretty useful and you are rewarded with a bonus which nets you more energon after finishing a level so you’re encouraged to use them.
The game is very fast paced. Every mission in the campaign has a timer and depending how quick you finish it, you get additional energon which you can use to upgrade your abilities like health, weapon cooldown, melee damage etc. Honestly it’s a good speedrunning game in that regard.
You go through the campaign with a fixed character but after it, you can replay the missions with anyone you want. You can also unlock some G1 episodes from achievements which is a neat novelty. Some of the dialogue after doing missions are actually kinda funny.
However my biggest complaint for this game is that it completely guts the free roam. It’s there but there’s literally nothing to do in it and you only unlock it after doing every mission in a zone. Might as well cut it out of the game and it wouldn’t make a difference.
Overall though, it’s a pretty solid Transformers game. It’s a massive improvement over Transformers the Game in almost every way possible it’s honestly funny. This version is on PS3 and Xbox 360 so it’s a little hard to get but if you can, I’d say grab it. You might like it

I’m currently doing a marathon of the BayFormers movies with a friend so I thought it’d be a neat idea to see if the games match up to the quality of the movies, and so far they don’t even reach the movies, not in a good way oh no these movie are awful, but in such a unique way that I have such a hard way of describing it. As a movie Revenge of the Fallen is an incomprehensible mess of a half ass script filled with so much sexualization, questionably racist stereotypes and incomprehensible action. It is a trainwreck of a movie and god dammit I just can’t look away from it. That all being said is the game as nearly of an entertaining trainwreck as the movie?…….no……..like not at all………..The game just like the first Bayformer movie game is as generic as movie tie-in games come, which to me just makes these games even worse than they already are. With the baymovies they have action that’s either incomprehensible or unironically cool but here it’s like just cookie cutter third person 7th gen shooting with driving controls that give Twisted Metal 2012 a run of its money. I think the worst part was they took away the cool Hulk Ultimate Destruction like open worlds from the first game (which was the part if you asked me) and replaced it with a static and empty map with no reason to replay missions or fuck around in them. At least with a bad movie tie-in game I could find some Ironic enjoyment with it but this game was so mind numbingly boring to play through I’m failing to come up with anything else to say about it. It’s shovelware in its least interesting form.
