I love everything about this except, funnily enough, the racing itself. The career mode’s great and it makes you really form a relationship with your cars, it’s got a great soundtrack that sounds like it was made specifically for it, and the vibes are immaculate - but the physics and handling are stiff as a board. It plays like an alien’s attempt at Gran Turismo.

I tried to play it, but it became very boring considering that there are no more street races and now we have circuit races, maybe it's not my type but I didn't think it was suitable for NFS, especially since it's not made even like a simulator.

mid game semi realistic physics for a arcade gameplay making it boring.

Real ones know this is better than Most Wanted

Here comes Ryan Cooper! The comeback kid!

I have never played a Need for Speed game before in my life. Wait, scratch that. I have only played one, but that was just Need for Speed Carbon on the GBA, so I'm not sure if that counts or not, but I'll count it out as I'm just talking about the mainline console titles for this review.

I wish I could talk about this game more in depth, but my journey begins with getting the damn thing to work in the first place.

First, I had to "Google the game's zip file" I mean look for a copy of the game that wasn't broken or still would be supported. That means either asking origin support for a copy of the game that I wanted to purchase, or take my chances with the internet and see what I could find. I did end up finding a copy, but christ did it feel like I was back in 2010 and just taking a chance on finding a game like this would be a gamble if it worked. Not to mention people in the comments would also be posting about their problems with the game, so that really didn't help me out one bit either.

But anyway, game acquired. Now time to play.

But wait guy, I see you're trying to do a race or two.

Let the game just stop working at every win screen and prevent the player from moving forward by hitting the key or button to move on to the next screen. This happens throughout my entire time playing the game, and I have to take a gamble at which race I'm going to do to keep playing this, or just have fun beating myself with a rock instead, as I would probably get more done than just repeating the same races hoping for a different result.

The race days in the game can be finished with getting enough points per match (If the game decides to let you move forward), so there wasn't that much of a problem for me. I got to play a bit of everything, and my progress was moving along as it should.

Until I got to a damn showdown king race event.

If you don't know, the game's whole shtick is around you doing certain types of races with each showdown king that holds the title "King" for each type of race. So there's a drift king, a drag king, a grip king, and two other ones I forgot as I was just getting frustrated writing this review.

But anyway, the way these events are made is that they go in a certain order. So if you're facing a drag king showdown event, you're going to do a 1/4 mile drag race, a 1/2 mile drag race, and finally a wheelie drag race. Sounds pretty simple, and I could knock em out.

But the game does this thing where the options are not spread out like they should be as it is with every racing event that you compete in. You're supposed to win one, and then go back to the main menu, and then do the next event, and so on and so forth.

I retried to do the first event 7 times until I just called it quits as the game just didn't want to budge.

This is not a review of the full game, but an review as to what I played for myself up to a point.I do see the fun in this game while others felt bitterness for this, due it being Blackbox's last title for the Need for Speed series until Criterion took over. I don't think this game is going to win any awards for best racer, because while this does feel empty with the races at times, it's so goddamn stylish with its presentation and soundtrack banging while you're finishing a race AND full customization of cars just makes it feel Grand Turismo esque while still maintaining its arcadey roots.

This game is a reminder that titles that are not available to play anymore should at the very least be preserved well for anyone else to try. Hell, if something like Syndicate can have a better time being available, why can't this title as well?

"So even all of these struggles, why did you play this game in the first place?"

I saw this video on my recommended yt feed, and it gave me an itch to finally try the game out.

Hell of a way to start off 2023.

RYANNNNNNNNNNNNNN COOOOPERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Pist yarışları nedir şu oyunda ya. Atın çöpe.

Need for Speed ProStreet is the first game I ever played, so naturally it's one of my favorite games. I really enjoyed replaying this game on Steam Deck.

The vibe and style of this game is very unique and always brings a smile to my face. The UI; the announcer; the car selection; the music; the visuals; the customization. All of it is very nostalgic for me, and I think that most people can get connected to it.

The game's structure makes me feel like I'm continuously improving and getting better as it goes on, even by my 5th playthrough of it. Not only is it fun, but it really rewards skillful play, even above simply getting first place. Doing drifts worth over ten thousand points and beating a grip race so fast that you're a minute under target time will let you skip events, this really helps the game feel better the more you play.

The car selection is excellent, and so are the things you can do with your cars. The visual customization is quite in depth, and the pre-built cars from opponents look quite cool. Upgrading is structured, so nothing feels too much more important than anything else. Tuning also makes quite a difference and it's quite satisfying to get everything on your car working just as you want it.

There are 9 different event types split across 4 different types of races. The regular circuit races are fun and intense, with the tracks having interesting design, every single location feels unique. The drag races aren't exactly unique to this game, but the structure of it makes it satisfying to play. Drifting is fun because it heavily rewards drifts that are long and done with speed, tracks range from two big turns to being a whole circuit, making drift tracks feel consistently unique. The speed races are the best part as they are the hardest part of the game and require a lot of speed and focus in the player, the sheer chaos and intensity really feels a lot of fun.

This game is incredible, I heavily recommend it, it's truly addicting.

The speed challenges are the best part of the game. They really nailed the sense of speed in those types of races. Another thing I really liked was how tuning your car actually made a difference here and can be the deciding factor in you winning or losing. Unfortunately I cannot say the same thing for everything else. No free roam, no cops, almost no customization. The controls could have been better if they were going to solely focus on legal street racing. Environments and tracks are super repetitive and uninspired.

A title maligned at announcement and launch - and not a great NFS game in the slightest - what it makes up in is that it feels like the closest approximation of club racing, 'run what you've brung' ideals. And in that regard, it's a title that shows promise even today.

what if nfs shift felt really bad to control

The game I disliked the most. It is not at all in the spirit of the Need for Speed series with its legal races. There is no racing around the city, drifting while running away from the police... That's just my opinion about the game, the graphics and the rest are very well done, but I don't like it at all and I wouldn't recommend playing it.

go and play pepega mod its the most closest we're going to get a pro street 2

The race day atmosphere is great. Too bad the handling sucks and the progression is torture. Speed events are fun though, even if really unbalanced. I really do want to see another game like this that actually plays well.

One of the most misunderstood games in the entire series, this game goes wild with its daytime racing theme and it executes it so perfectly, to the point where replaying it even in 2022 doesn't feel like the game is a chore. If you can - give ProStreet another chance. I think you might enjoy it.

Need for Speed has taken many different directions, but the mid to late 2000’s were the worst for the series. ProStreet is probably the worst NFS I have played, and I can’t really recommend this to even hardcore fans. The game has good customization options and varied event types, but after a couple dozen races you will be bored.

Races consist of earning a certain amount of points to “Dominate the Day”. These events range from Drifts, Drags, Grip, Time Attack, and Sector Shootout. Sector Shootout is where you have a track divided into sections and you must get the fastest times in those to win. Grip races are straight up races, and the rest is history. Out of these events, the Drags are the best because you need to heat up your tires before racing. You can only win by getting perfect shifts, but after you get NOS upgrades the drags become really easy. There is 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile drags, but I would have liked to see 3/4 and 1 mile drags as well. All the other races are pretty boring, and drifting in the game feels like dragging an 18 wheeler through dirt. No matter what car you use drifting never feels right, and is a huge pain to pull off.

The game was one of the first NFS games that used real-time damage which is supposed to affect the way the car drives but really doesn’t. You can get light and heavy damage, but I never really noticed much of a hit in performance. If you damage your car you have to repair before the next race, but you can use cash or repair markers that you earn. My biggest issue with these “Race Days” is that if you quit in the middle you have to restart the whole thing. This drove me nuts because I couldn’t go upgrade my car and come back.

Upgrading your cars is pretty fun because there are a lot of options for both performance and cosmetic. You can fine-tune your car as well, but there is a quick upgrade option for impatient people. You can only have certain cars for certain event types, but you can only save customizations as blueprints. This allows you to have multiple looks and load outs for your cars. I found that cash is given very slowly and parts are very expensive so you won’t be upgrading very often which is a huge bummer.

Lastly, the game is just monotonous. After about a couple dozen races you will feel fed up with the same tired races over and over again. The physics feel too weighty, and most cars feel the same no matter how you upgrade them. The whole game is really unbalanced and poorly designed. The game doesn’t even officially support the Game for Windows controller, and just show keyboard buttons instead. I just gave up about halfway through because some races were always easy no matter who you did, and some extremely difficult no matter how good you were. The visuals are decent, but not anything to write home about. The announcer is just extremely annoying to listen to with his stoner one-liners and he just blabbers on about nonsense.

Overall, ProStreet wasn’t very good when it came out and isn’t 5 years later. There were, and still are, better racing games out there. I can’t really recommend this game unless you like monotony and repetitive nonsense. ProStreet is half-broken and highly unbalanced. As it stands, this is probably the worst NFS out there right now.
