This is the most slept-on and underappreciated platformer of the 21st century.

I beat this in the middle of APUSH after AP tests so that was awesome

I prefer the Switch re-release.

My favorite and what I consider to be the best 2D sidescroller ever.

To put bluntly what has been rehashed over the years:
Dynamic and organic levels with secrets and challenges
Weighty and satisfying control
100/10 OST

It's crazy to write this 10 years later and not see any more mainline DK games.

le jeu est trop bien mais tellement court c'est dommage

one of the best platformers out there

Why was this the last donkey kong platformer, give us more

Peak, really need to replay this someday

Possibly the best or one of the best 2D platformers ever released. Music is banging, every level feels alive and unique and part of the island/world you're in. Beautiful as well another Nintendo classic.

Cranky Kong laid down his life for me on many occasions.

Don't remember much about this game other than not liking it more than DKC Returns, but funny peng (PRODUCT RECIEVED FOR FREE VIA CLUB NINTENDO)

didnt like this one as much as the last one, physics were fighting against me and almost no death felt like my fault
not even gonna bother with the side content, game did not feel good to control or fun to beat
i did beat the final boss so go fuck yourself

ISNANELT GOOD
BEST 2D PLATOFRMWER EVRE (trust me)

More games need New Added Funky Kong Mode

really fucking beautiful soundtrack holy shit. definitely knew before hand that this soundtrack was great but going through all of it at once i am absolutely amazed by how fucking beautiful and stunning this whole thing was god damn

Super good. I just wish it had more worlds in exchange for there being less levels in each world, as the theme for each world starts to get a bit dull especially in worlds 2 and 4. But the final world having frozen remixes of all the worlds from country returns was freaking awesome

Probably one of the best 2D platformers made with some great music and movement for DK.

there's a decent chance this game will never be topped as the best 2d platformer in my lifetime and thats half saddening and half beautiful, not to sound like a loser but i genuinely think this is a perfect game

Arguably the only 2d platformer with triple A quality in the past two decades. This game is a perfect follow up to Returns in almost every way and has so much attention to every detail, with every level having one or multiple unique gameplay ideas that additionally tie into the scenery and theme of the level to create an extremely immersive and pretty world.

The 3D environments created for each level are so fun and inspired, with one of the world's entire themes being the factory process of harvesting, juicing, then jellifying fruit which translates to the gameplay is so unique, on top of all the call backs to Returns and previous dkc games. That attention to detail is the biggest selling point of Tropical Freeze and why it sets itself apart from every other 2D platformer.

The gameplay elements of every level keep the game from ever feeling repetitive or basic, while never introducing mechanics that are overwhelming (outside of the post-game levels) or feel like they aren't from a DK game. The fact that the worst level in tropical freeze is just "ok" just goes to show how great it is.

There's only a couple of aspects that stop it from being a perfect 2D platformer for me, the main one being it feels like it's missing some sort of X factor in the game's core mechanics, such as more tools to play around with or a bigger skill curve to optimising movement, but the main goal of DK games were never the core mechanics and always focused on level design and immersion, so it also doesn't worsen the game for me. I'm also extremely biased over platformers that are able to use the gameplay to tell an actual story which is something this game lacks, but who gives a fuck if there's no story it's fucking donkey kong

The other aspects that draw the game back for me are the bosses and the side content, both of which are still "good" but so many other platformers from the same decade have done both platformer bosses and side content so much better where I don't think I can say this game succeeds at everything it set out to be.

The music is also perfect for the game and its crazy how the only composer for donkey kong ever was grant kirkhope and no one else. what a talent

Now this is good. Great music, great level variety. This is up there in the discussion for best DKC game.

One of the greatest platformers of all time

Country Returns but with snow... And better.

It's just everything I said about Returns but even more polished.
One of the best 2d games ever.
I still sorta like Returns more.

genuinely one of the best platformers ever made

Retro is never making metroid prime 4, so you might as well play their last game about cold monkeys 🐒 ❄️
