some real gross revisionism going on about this and Y2 "playing like shit", perpetuated by people who have never in their lives interacted with it beyond memes.
here's the thing: pretty much any laptop you can go out and buy these days runs pcsx2. the Restored mod exists now. there's just no excuse.
that "obsolete because remake exists" mindset capital G gamers have is donkey-brain behavior.

@MiraMiraOTW i think it comes down to a change of the guard, there's been no effort whatsoever from Sega in reintroducing these first two to the audience they attracted between 0 and Like a Dragon. i see this in "is Yakuza good?" "where should i start with Yakuza?" discussions a lot, people that don't even know when or where they were released because Kiwami and Kiwami 2 effectively replaced them. like, the prevalent sentiment is that they're clunkers because they can only assume they are, it's not as if you can gauge a lot out of a youtube playthrough aside from "boy does this dub sure blow!".

Even now, I still think Y1 and Y2 have a muuuuuuuuuch better atmosphere than their remakes - 1 especially.
Don't get me started on the music.
