I really appreciate this but the story didn't do anything for me and I started skipping through it during chapter 2. I love Picross though and I've genuinely never seen those Speed Picross bits been done before.
If you are referring to the hacking bits, where you have to solve puzzles under time pressure, then that was something I've seen on the Nintendo DS with PicrossDS and possibly Pokemon Picross. If I remember correctly they had daily challenges and you were able to collect some kind of meta-in-game currency. Might be worth checking out, if you have the chance.
