Sadly, this iteration cannot be played using the Nuzlocke rules, which is the only enjoyable way I can play Pokemon games these days. Truly a shame, because otherwise, the mechanisms and gameplay are quite interesting.

bruh you cant be serious

A good nuzlocke player will adjust the rules of the nuzlocke to fit the game they are playing.

I'm actually a regular nuzlocker, and when I went into LOA to do a nuzlocke I decided: one pokemon per area, no healing with the exception of items you find out in the wild, and no returning to heal or changing time until the objective for why you set out is complete. Without the ability to catch every pokemon you come across, you lose the ability to easily gather exp, and your pokemon have to automatically exhaust moves and health to keep going. If you look at the map and catch a new pokemon in every area (or plan which one you want to catch in said area and go for it) you can control your nuzlocke with more precision than when it's randomized in tall grass. Which is a benefit you should be thankful for because this game throws high level pokemon at you that can kill even YOU. And another rule i add is "if your trainer dies, your nuzlocke is over". Shinies are ofcs the exception of the rule, but there is 100% ability to enjoy this game as a nuzlocke. Sounds to me like you just didn't try to find a way to adjust to the new formula and instead of finding ways to accommodate your needs, you claim it can not be played.

I really suggest revising your nuzlocke rules to fit the mechanics of the game, instead of saying you can't nuzlocke it when, you absolutely can nuzlocke it. You can say you dont like the game but don't hide it behind the fact that it "cant be nuzlocked" when that is 100% possible- sincerely, a regular nuzlocker.

Are you serious?

The best part of Nuzlocke is the randomized chance of which Pokemon you're getting in the tall grass. Changing that is basically not playing Nuzlocke anymore.

Sounds to me you're too much of a Pokemon ball-licker to actually admit this.

It is simple, this game cannot be played using the Nuzlocke rules. Not as they were intended.

If you have to adapt it and change it so much, you are not playing Nuzlocke anymore, it's as simples as that.

complaining that you can't play a new game with some made up rules is stupid, especially when its a spinoff and thus doesn't even play the same to begin with
inb4 you delete this comment too

I only delete stupid and needlessly aggressive comments that can't respect other's opinions, so yours is mostly safe!

However, I truly believe that you can do whatever you want in other to enjoy a game.

Not being able to play the game the way I enjoy Pokemon games, makes me like it a lot less and thus the score reflects MY opinion.

I for one, think the most stupid thing is not to respect another's tastes and opinions, and complain of the fact that somebody did not suck the game's balls since you like it so much.

My review is here, that's my opinion.

You're free to disagree, and you can give the score you feel the game deserves! Explain in your own review why you love it so much!

But, don't go down that stupid and simplistic path of complaining just because somebody else dislikes it.

this guy would complain he can't castle while playing checkers

If that's your take, than golly you're dum dum

I shall explain in a way that maybe you can understand, ok?

Pokemon games as they are, are basically between 2 and 3 stars. I don't really care for how they usually play.

Add Nuzlocke, then they become a 4, maybe even 5 depending.
this isn't a normal pokemon game tho. it's a spin off. would you complain you couldn't nuzlocke pokemon ranger too? what about pokemon pinball? the trading card game?

Oh wow yeah, this game is surely as much a spin off as the tcg.... lol

It's pokemon, you capture and battle pokemon.

At least it's better than Let's go Pikachu/Eevee, those were fucking dumb as fuck

"The best part of Nuzlocke is the randomized chance of which Pokemon you're getting in the tall grass. Changing that is basically not playing Nuzlocke anymore." I don't know how long you've been nuzlocking, but the ONLY rule a nuzlocke needs to have to qualify as a nuzlocke is that the pokemon you lose in battle are considered "dead" and everything else is personal bias and tack-ons to make the experience harder. Back when nuzlockes first came about, people experimented with nuzlocke rules all the time, but the only thing they all had in common was "pokemon that faint are considered dead".

Plus, you talk about random encounters, but there is only 1 or 2 pokemon you can encounter on certain routes in some games... it isn't so much random as it is "fixed". Arceus at least lets you choose a different team which gives for more replayability for the nuzlocke itself.

There's pokemon games I absolutely despise, but this isn't one of them. And I think your view of a nuzlocke is really narrow minded. You sound like someone who has never played a nuzlocke or adjusted the rules to fit the game you're playing. Again, the only thing your setup needs to qualify as a nuzlocke is the fact your pokemon do not "faint". You are entitled to your narrow minded view of a nuzlocke, but you can't claim this game can not be nuzlocked when it absolutely can. You just don't like the fact the nuzlocke can not follow your narrow scope of what a "typical" nuzlocke is supposed to be. And even then, I think your view of a classical nuzlocke is incorrect. The rules are all self imposed- which don't make them set in stone. There is no "correct" way to nuzlocke. All your nuzlocke needs to qualify as one is for you to not use the pokemon that faint. That's the only "classic" trait. The rule of catching 1 pokemon per area still stands, and was always "if there is a double battle, the player may CHOOSE WHICH ONE TO CATCH". The whole area in legends of arceus is technically a battlefield. So, the fact you can choose what pokemon to catch is a huge boon you should be thankful for. If you mess up, there's still no second chances if you want to go with the traditional rules. Again, you are looking at it in a very narrow minded way and choosing to be angry instead of adapting. Then again, if you were going to play this game and be pissed while you play it, it's a good thing you chose not to play it at all. But then again... why did you buy it if you watched the trailers and noticed you wouldn't be able to nuzlocke it? It's not like the trailer was hiding the fact wild pokemon would be out and about.
So true

I did not buy it thank fuck, I pirated it, as I do with all Nintendo games, on principle.

To your other points, sure I guess, it's your game you can change the rules as you see fit.

However, that means that I get to do the same, and to ME, as I've stated before, the ONLY way to play a Pokemon game in an enjoyable way is with the classic Nuzlocke rules.

Maybe I am a puritan, but I love the core rules of Nuzlocke so much, that changing them is simply not worth it and to ME, creates a diluted experience.

Thank you for your well constructed argument, however there is no way to play a Nuzlocke or, hell, any game, in the proper manner.

Since this is my review, everything I've said is based on my perspective and tastes.

You can accept that and move on, or not.

I still give this game a 2.5.
