Here we have a game based on a Manga & Anime license. It seems to be practically unknown here in the West unfortunately, mostly just seen as “it existed” and that’s a bit sad to see. Is the game itself any good? Sadly this title falters for the sole fact it feels too simplistic. While this isn’t the worst shmup on the system, it fails to impress on any standing it could have.

The gameplay is rather basic and most weapons and magic fail to leave any cool impact. I basically used the double shot the entire game and had I known earlier, I would have gotten time stops for the bosses. Instead of getting these items from enemy drops, you can choose from 1 of 6 randomly selected items this witch named Mimora-chan. You can take multiple hits but I was disappointed by how poor your hitbox is, it’s a little bigger than your sprite which can make some hits feel unfair. The sprite also might be a bit too big for a GG game too. Though this will probably be some of your only damages because the game is way too easy. This also goes for bosses which are total pushovers.

It’s not too fair to be so hard on something that was probably rushed out the door but this game fails to do much in the shmup genre. Its only saving grace is that it might be good for newbies of the genre and the variety of stages and enemy types. It does look nice for the system but graphics can only get you so far. I was almost falling asleep to the slow easy pace of this game. It wasn’t that well received back then and I doubt it’ll ever get any sort of fanbase even if you were to like the franchise it’s based off of. At least Game Freak would treat the series better for the MD game.
