A top tier Immersive Simulated Experience. If you're even aware of this genre then you're likely to find a decent bit of enjoyment in this game. It takes the light puzzle element present in many imsims and brings it to the forefront of the experience, to the point where it's more dominant than the usual first person shooter framing, you don't even need to get a gun. This makes for a really unique experience, especially thanks to just how open for creativity the game is clearly built.

There are so many great mechanics on display here that i don't know where to start and where would i even end with them. Not only is there an already solid foundation of abilities your bug is able to do, which range from a typical shotgun to being able to spawn most objects and enemies in the game, but there is also the ability to take control of almost any significant enemy or object that might be standing in your way (this is also why that latter ability is actually pretty significant). This opens up so many options. You may use them as scouts, as safer passages into the next area, to smuggle things into the enemy circles or to just attack the enemies outright while keeping your bug safe and the list goes on... I will not mention everything not only because it would go on for way too long but also because the fun part is figuring out how to best use all these mechanics to get past some often pretty tough challenges. Creativity can often really pay off! There have been a fair few moments where after figuring out a fun solution to a problem i had been stuck on for a while i laughed, thinking "I can't believe that actually worked!"

Ctrl alt ego has a particular retro futuristic aesthetic of huge and bulky machines in a world set in the far far future that is fairly distinct, in a way it's interesting to see a game focus on an aesthetic from the past that is not so flashy. Its visuals may not be the strongest aspect, but i don't think they can really be called a flaw. Plus i do actually really like all the robot designs. The game also has quite a bit of humor in it and it generally delivers with some fun writing while in possesion of hosts. One of my favorites of these is the song that plays while in possesion of a DOR (which alone makes me wish for some kind of ost release). The story follows in similar footsteps, with a bunch of absurd humor and while it is at times confusing and takes a while to get going i still found it interesting and very fitting for the game. All this combined with quirks like the many cat pictures or worms as upgrades(ready to worm is a great phrase), the game does have a charm to it.

Overall, Ctrl Alt Ego really is a wonderful game. It stands toe to toe with many acclaimed games in the genre and i think it even surpasses many of them in its gameplay. I can't say there's a whole lot i dislike about it either, other than some pretty minor nitpicks. I'm likely going to be replaying it and messing around more with some of its mechanics i havent gotten to use as much and trying some of its harder challenges.
