You can tell that this game genuinely does want to be something. Somewhere in this sea of atrocity there are ideas worth being explored and an earnest attempt at innovation, even when the final product seems like it’s design philosophy is to be at constant odds with itself and the player. Does X7 want to make the commitment to transitioning a tried and true formula into a 3D space? Does it want to continue tradition and be a 2D platformer? 2.5D? I don’t know the answer to this question, and neither does X7.

How did we start from X1, a shining testament of focused game design mastery and one of the best games to ever grace the medium, to X7? How the fuck did that happen? How the fuck did we get here?
