the combat is definitely its focus, and it is really done with excellence, it was revolutionized with the over the shoulder camera, its weak point really is its characters, Ashley for example simply has no charisma at all, but at the same time characters like Leon and ada are very charismatic and beloved in the franchise also for their participation in RE4 and not only for their developments in other games that are sometimes more beloved like RE2, many dialogues and even entire parts of the game have aged poorly, like Leon's childishness and that scene of the robot salazar (that thing is really bizarre dear god) but considering the time in which it was released this is very understandable, the capcom team sacrificed things like story and characters in favor of dynamic and definitely revolutionary combat, it's a very important game for the franchise and for action games in general, the remake fixes many things, such as having adopted Leon's recklessness as part of his personality and working on the character more, making him not just a reckless child, giving him more development to having more layers of personality and justifying your behavior in an understandable way within the context of the game, I have great affection for this game.
