This game is a must-play for those who enjoy shooters with experimental physics.

Jump in a direction and release the stick to neutral to enter "speed state". Continue jumping without moving to maintain your momentum. Level geometry affects this heavily; Jumping into inclines slows you down, while downward slopes speed you up by a ridiculous amount.

Every character has access to speed state, though some can use it better than others. Foot Soldier’s rocket leap can take you from a standstill to near-max speed with a button press, and Peashooter’s hyper transforms any downward slope into a horizontal launchpad. Combine that speed with a well-timed Bean Bomb jump and you’ll go flying! It's super fun to look for new launch spots. The enemy team rarely sees me coming when I'm moving like this.

Maps are wonderfully detailed and full of personality. I exclusively play Gardens and Graveyards, which consists of 4 maps with 5-7 objectives each. Of the 25 total gardens, 23/25 are very fun, providing balanced enough competition for both teams. The only ones I dislike are the final points on Main Street and Wall-nut Hills. They heavily favor one team over the other. All are excellent lookers, especially at night time. Character voices are great. Scientist's death scream gets me every time! Weapon sounds are appropriately satisfying and cartoonish.

Core gameplay is excellent if you can tolerate bad balancing. Top characters like Agent Pea and Super Commando will melt you in seconds, while weaker characters will struggle. This isn't usually a big deal to me, but Garden Warfare forces players to obtain characters randomly via loot boxes. This would be a dealbreaker for me in most cases, but Garden Warfare's implementation is among the more ethical I've seen. Money is as frequent as exp. in other games; you should average 10,000 per match. In the pre-game lobby, players can spend earned coins on various card packs in the item shop. A guaranteed character costs 40,000 coins, while more generalized packs average 10-20 thousand. 4 games per character is an acceptable rate to me, however, character upgrades and class abilities only drop from generalized packs. This is infuriating! They aren't too rare in my experience, but I've had 80,000+ coin dry spouts at times. I'd definitely prefer the game without these elements, but such was the way of EA live services during this era. PC players can trivialize this grind by modding the game; console players will have to deal with it, unfortunately.

I'll be playing this game for as long as I am able. I love the movement, maps, and fast paced casual gameplay so much!
