Not gonna make an actual review for this since A) I'm simply too positively biased to actually give a meaningful review, B) I already marked the original release my 5-star score anyway, this is just another PSA from a giant nerd that, if able to do so, just use an installer tool to mod the PC/Steam release instead - or if you prefer having a step-by-step guide there's one made on Steam here.

A lot of people have mentioned how jankier this is, and while OG SA isn't exactly jank-free regardless of what version you pick, I feel like looking up comparisons between them would still be advised considering DX gets ported so often it creates bigger issues with the physics and controls, as well as the fact that the 60fps bump makes some of the game logic rather wonky. Yes, granted, there's a few that requires manual input to pull off, but regardless I feel like there's more than enough to say that, casually, you'll just stumble into some by complete accident.

A website dedicated to detailing the changes as much as possible, as well as a video made by Cybershell truncating all that technical mumbo jumbo details a lot of changes made that I again recommend looking into yourself, but in short there're texture and especially lighting changes that cut into the original's atmosphere, made worse by how often the game gets ported that then accentuates these tiny errors to becoming more notable and egregious. Just for a quick example, the shiny character models were fine for the original Gamecube release, but each subsequent rerelease makes them look worse and worse, and - forever my go-to example when discussing this - the sewer section of Casinopolis has this in DX, for some strange reason. Granted there's still enough available to just be down to personal preference, I don't entirely mind Emerald Coast's changes as one example, and for those who prefer the DX models you even have the option to get a mod that makes their lighting more like the DC versions.

As for the new stuff DX brings to the table, I don't think many of them are actually that impressive? Skipping cutscenes is a good addition, and regardless of the few issues it contains the bump to 60fps is cool, but everything else is rather superfluous for me to really care, especially mission mode which I have only touched one time in all my years playing this game, and then never again. All of that would've been fine for GC since that was basically the first port, but after years have passed and there's this many issues being cropped up, I simply can't share that sentiment now.

To reiterate, even with restoring the DC lighting and features and downplaying any issues and bugs that has sprung up due to multiple, barely refined port has touched, SA1 is still gonna be a janky ass game no matter what, and if you didn't like it to begin with, this isn't gonna change your mind drastically. I'm only making this to give people options to make it look better to personal liking, and at least keep any sort of potential issues as minimal as possible.

Of course! I'm sure there are other mods I skimped out on, but I just wanted to focus on the essentials. There's a lot of mods to for both Adventure games that I like peeking into every once in a while.
