thank you kiwami 1 and 2 for being so bad, id rather seek out and play 20 year older versions of the same games.

yakuza 1 has definitely aged, and not the best in a lot of areas. that begin said, for being a first entry in the series along with all the development hell the game went though, they got SO MUCH right the first time around it blows my mind. The atmosphere, the music, the writing, the characters, the cinematography, even the combat (at end game anyways) they fucking nailed it so hard.

my BIGGEST gripe with the game however, is how long it takes said combat to actually get fun. the first half of the game had me bumbling around, struggling to keep heat while crossing my fingers hoping my attacks would land and the enemies wouldnt just gang up on me as im flailing around struggling to regain control. near end game though, once you get some of the training upgrades as well as max out the technique tree giving you a combo finishing throw, the games combat IMMEDIETLY unlocks and it all makes sense.

all in all, i very much preferred this version of the game to kiwami, a game i had to play like 3 different times and had to force myself to finish.
very excited to play 2 again since besides how much i hated the dragon engine, the combat, the j-pop and overall ost, the ugly screen filters and green tint, the slow grindy leveling system, and some other things im probably forgetting; yakuza 2 might be my favorite story wise
