Review based on the final ending.

The End is Nigh is a pretty solid platforming game that has a good bit of meat to it. It goes from a rather easy start to a pretty intense finish and does so in a pretty smooth difficulty curve that will teach the player how to be better.

The majority of the platforming in the game I found to be very solid. There's always something interesting going on, and the movement system that the character has worked like a charm usually. As mentioned, it gets harder as the game goes on, and it always incorporates new gimmicks as you get further in the game. A major factor of these additions comes from enemies, some of them shoot, some chase you, etc. All in all, it makes for a pretty varied game that will last you for quite a few hours.

I did have some grievances with the game, particularly in the second half of it. I'm a fan of the system allowing you to only have to do one room at a time with unlimited lives, so once the game throws that out the window it became quite annoying. I never actually fell victim to the system, but it might deter a lot of newer platformer players from the rest of the game. I also was not a fan of the poisonous water at all, it was by far the worst thing in the game gimmick-wise. These problems aren't too bad if you get used to the game, or have a lot of platformer experience outside of it, so I still was able to overlook them mostly. Now as a platformer player, one thing I couldn't overlook is the fluidity of the player being a mess when it came to knowing your own hitbox, that's not exactly wise for a platformer at all.

Overall, I think The End is Nigh is one of the best platformers you can find on Steam. It does have problems that will definitely subtract the number of people who can fully beat it, but you can still get a good number of hours out of it anyways.
