I would say beginning of the end for this franchise but we'd still have Black Flag to look forward to. And Origins and Odyssey I suppose. I always hated this one the most back when I played them all at release, and despite the first few hours making me feel like I'd misjudged it, it absolutely turns into Ubisoft bullshit about 6 hours in. The overworlds between the main cities are unbelievably convoluted with the worst map design I've ever seen and have absolutely nothing to do in them, except get locked in some of the series' worst combat when you're thrown off your horse just for passing an enemy. Running around colonial New York and Boston is as cool as it always is in these games, but much of the historical context of the story feels more hackneyed than in any AC game before or since. As always, I appreciate the attempts at historical accuracy and all the legwork done around meta-contextual supplements for the player but I hate having to engage with the game to be able to see any of it. Also why were we remastering everything before we'd ever be able to get it to run at 60fps? Hardly feels improved at all except for the messed up HDR implementation.
