Combat, the village and the treasure/merchant system is way better than the original.

But honestly all of the character except Luis are worse (especially Saddler, Salazar and Krauser), both the castle and island sections are worse than the original and I don't really feel like a lot of the set pieces are as memorable or fun as the original or were better than the ones the replaced.

The lack of the goofy tone and campiness was also a big point against for me since it was probably my favorite part of the original.
