And so begins my venture into the Metro games. Truth be told I was expecting a lot more from 2033 but it's certainly not a bad game. The atmosphere and nature is something to be admired. But the way they develop characters leaves a lot to be desired. I don't find the story to be that interesting anyway but you barely know someone for five minutes before they are killed off, giving you no chance to get connected or even care about them. They only character I can really remember the name of is Bourbon as he was quite interesting, well that and that's the fact that he shares the name with a chocolate biscuit and/or whisky. It's a shame because it seems like they are all well written and have their own defined personalities but you just never see them long enough. Plus voice acting isn't exactly stellar and they couldn't have made Artyom any less interesting if they tried, despite hearing his name said more times than I've had hot dinners. If he spoke that may have helped but maybe it's just because I hate silent protagonists.

But to be a bit more positive I liked the enemy variety and the gunplay is alright I suppose. I also like the fact you can't just rush in Call of Duty one man army style and just murder everyone because in doing so will result in your death very swiftly. I really did try to get into it and not gonna lie I struggled with that. Overall it's decent, could've been better and it's quite a frustrating game at times especially with the mask and having very little control over it but despite a few flaws it's okay. Hoping Last Light learns from 2033's mistakes.
