So, I decided to replay this game after like 8-9 years and honestly, Pokemon Colosseum is still as awesome as I remembered it. I'm honestly more surprised of the fact that the rating of this game is kinda low since I've seen a lot of people praise this Pokemon game as one of the best due to it's nice animations for the mons and the concept of snagging other people's Pokemon in a battle. I can understand the criticism of this game because I know some people don't like the level curve spike near the end of the game or mid-way through and also the fact that, there are people who want to purify all Shadow Pokemon, but the process is very long since there isn't much you can do to lower their shadow gauge other than walking, battling, or using scents. The problem is that the scents in the shop are expensive and they probably aren't worth it most of the time unless you want to know the nature of a shadow pokemon you snagged and soft reset for a better one. If you want to purify all Shadow Pokemon, it's going to take the whole day or two to do it, so be prepared for that. Another problem I can definitely understand is that the fact that most of the Shadow Pokemon you snag are mostly from Johto. And Johto is notoriously known to have bad Pokemon overall with not many great base stats or good movesets. They fixed this problem by giving some Johto Pokemon evolutions (Sneasel, Gligar, Yanma, Aipom, etc.) Problem is that this is pre-Gen 4, so those mons don't have those evolutions in this game and throughout the game you will have to catch them as Shadow Pokemon and they aren't going to be helpful whatsoever in your team. I do like how your options are limited in this game on the amount of Pokemon you can catch, but catching only Johto Pokemon that aren't very good in Gen 3 is just kinda lame. There are definitely some good Johto Pokemon you can catch in this game, but almost half of them you snag aren't going to be very good. Don't get me wrong though, there is some Hoenn Shadow Pokemon you can catch in this game, it's just that most of Shadow Pokemon you will find in trainer battles are going to be from Johto most of the time. You can still build a pretty great team regardless of your limited options and I think that's what makes this game great today still for me. The starters you start with are great both offensively and defensively, so you should use them for your team unless you want to try something different in your team. Also, I don't think grinding was as bad as people said it is in this game since I got my party on par with their levels against most of the difficult pokemon battles in this game. Mt. Battle is your place to grind levels and you should definitely go there to grind levels as much as you can. The final boss is very difficult and that's what I liked a lot about this game. I play Pokemon competitively and I really like some of the competitive strategies some of the trainer bosses use in battle that most casual players may not expect in their playthrough and I think that's what makes this game special to me a lot. For the final boss, you should definitely have your Pokemon around level 50-55 to be safe cause you're going to be underleveIed regardless for it and it's going to be a pushover most likely. I played this game without using healing items or using any items at all in battle since I'm a tryhard at a children's game for some reason and I went in with level 50+ Pokemon against the final boss, barely won, and played the entire post game content (including purifying all Shadow Pokemon.) So, I can say that I enjoyed playing this game again as it's still very memorable and special to me to this day and it's definitely one of the best Pokemon games that I recommend people should play 100%.
