This took me a while due to my interest in it wavering and the game's paving but it's a very high quality indie that pays tribute to the SNES era of RPGs well. It's very clear this was at least somewhat made to appeal to Chrono Trigger fans and it actually manages to cover quite a few tropes from other games in that era (although going into specifics would be a spoiled). It's definitely worth checking out if you want a modern take on the classic formula.

Edit:
After playing The Messenger I now appreciate the story and setting more. The map recreations, boss, characters technically showing up in both, etc made this a lot more interesting looking back.
