I actually played this before the remake was announced, and I think because of that I had a better time than most will now.

Some of the issues of FE 1 have been addressed, you actually have a lot more reason to use units especially the three village kids since you can customise their classes yourself and overall the actual gameplay feels smoother.

Unfortunately the early maps are usually just open fields and maybe a river if the game is feeling spicy. The game also suffers in that a lot of the story is not in the game, presumably a lot is in the manual and you only really get some story content at the start of new acts and then a dump at the end. Still interesting but once again the remake has somewhat removed a reason to play this as even if you don't like any of the remake playable characters the visual downgrade on the maps sprites is very off putting.
