"You're Einstein, sir! I mean, you are the e to the mc squared, like a clock-speed-doubled microchip, sir!"

This game was a beloved timesink for me in my youth, but its rough edges and limitations are a bit more apparent to me as an adult. It's not especially well-balanced; all the civs play the same; and the scenarios vary drastically in enjoyability (I played the MGE version which had quite a few bundled). Civ2's representation of various cultures is... well, less than ideal, even though it tries to some extent. Visually, there's some decent pixel art, but the overall style is just okay.

In the end, I'd say that personally, this is one of those childhood games that holds up decently, but not amazingly, in retrospect. The core gameplay is still fun, despite anything else.
