It is impossible to understate how many games were tucked into the God of War / Devil May Cry weapon-swapping hack and slash sub-genres until you go back and find one for Evil Dead, I'll tell you that much.

It's good! Some of the humor has aged like milk, which is the way it goes, but overall it was way tamer and way less focused on gross-out humor than word of mouth had me to believe? The combat was very stiff, but not stiff enough to serve as a detractor, the dialogue between Bruce Campbell (Ash) and Ted Raimi (Sam) does a lot to keep things light, and serves as a fun and constant nod to series fans, and most importantly, the levels are a good short length. It's a breezy game that sticks around until its fun and ducks out just as the fun slumps.

Evil Dead: Regeneration isn't winning any awards for originality or narrative excellence, but it is a great time you may have missed at release, and a good example of what a strong Evil Dead adaptation can be, balancing action, humor, and horror in measure enough to avoid strict classification.

But for series fans, a play-through is warranted for the extra content, which holds a series of interviews and clips with Ted and Bruce, and to see just how much time has passed between now and then. It may stress some out: but this game is going to be TWENTY next year.
