Developing for the Intellivision is a labor of love, and Pumpkin Attack is no exception. A standard halloween-themed shmup, this title has incredibly eerie skeletal bosses and a satisfying beam weapon for combat, both of which give the game extremely precise characterization that's almost impossible on the platform. A feat worthy of praise.

The main detractors however are that the game is easy as sin, even on hard mode, and the gameplay is necessarily repetitive due to the hardware it's developed for. It could easily stand among the juggernauts of the Intellivision console in their time, but age means that nearly all the gems in that particular treasure chest serve more as novelty than thrill.

Slice it either way, its a tremendous achievement that deserves celebration, but that celebration is partying like it's nineteen SEVENTY nine, so it's hard to properly hear it through the walls of 2024.
