Super Paper Mario is a weird clash of genres. In some ways it feels as though it's at war with itself. The story interrupts the gameplay, and the gameplay interrupts the story. It manages to be fun and memorable despite that. The series charm is mostly intact, though the world and its denizens aren't nearly as interesting as the previous RPG entries, but that's to be expected. This game is a sore spot for many fans, as the shift in genre really wasn't asked for, and the familiar, beloved style of TTYD has yet to return.
