Playing the first game in a series were you grew up with it's sequels will always raise the question, does it hold up to what came after? For superstar saga the answer is an emphatic yes. The trademark Mario & Luigi charm is ever present with pinpoint humour from start to finish. The game moves at a quick pace with little to no padding a breath of fresh air compared to some of the later entries. The combat is also quick paced with the advanced version of bros moves adding depth to a simple but rewarding combat system. The expressive sprite work and soundtrack are a treat to the senses throughout. The bean bean kingdom is probably the most realised location in the series with a great cast and varied locales. The final boss difficulty spike aside I loved every second of this adventure. The silver medal of the M&L series by some distance.
