Have not played the OG but my experience with this game was pretty much perfect aside from the punishingly easy puzzles and the expectedly atrocious narrative that has become a campy staple of the series (it does not negatively impact the games at all to me because of how much the incredible gameplay overshadows the story). Side note, I couldn't help but notice how tonally and atmospherically similar RE8 is to this one? granted the pacing and game design in RE4:R is much more methodical and well-pieced together but still, kind of makes me like Village less considering how the main thing going for that game was it's refreshing settings and concepts.
