very fun to play! similar to the first i still think it's a bit too easy, but the level designs were a bit more interesting this time around. i also tried to play a bit more intended in the sense of getting high combos and maximizing my score, which made fights more interesting and even though i was never really at risk of dying it made getting hit still a threat to my combo which is pretty smart. the requirements for S rank are pretty easy though, I got under A once and especially with gunvolt got 80% S ranks first try. the bosses were pretty fun, with some sick designs and badass attacks. some felt pretty dumb and not telegraphed amazingly but it all looked so sick and flashy i didn't mind too much. the new character copen took some getting used to but ended up being very fun! his dash mechanic is a bit confusing but once you get the hang of it you're blasting around the stage super quick absolutely shredding enemies and it was sick. the EX moves were a bit of a letdown, i only ever really found one useful and only ever used it on bosses.
i think the story/characters are a bit too anime for my tastes. there's a lot of mid stage dialogue but this game has only japanese voice acting, no dub to be seen. which isn't a huge issue, but in a game as fast paced as this it's hard to read what's being said mid stage unless there's some small downtime and it led to me missing a ton of conversations. although, maybe that's for the best since the dialogue wasn't really doing it for me lol. i found myself half wishing there was a dub so i could hear the conversations and learn more about the characters and also half being grateful i wasn't hearing some of what was being said cause some of it was annoying/degen as hell LOL. guess we'll see what happens with 3 since that one has a dub, maybe i'll yearn for the good ol days of not understanding what weird shit they're saying to each other.
i'll probably play the copen spin offs and 3 at some point, this is a series i have a lot of fun playing but the story is a bit too out there and just doesn't click with my specific tastes. i don't think it's awful by any means but i'm not a big anime guy and it's got a lot of those tropes and whatnot so it just didn't super click with me.
