Hell Pie is a mixed bag. From a gameplay perspective, I love it. The worlds are expansive and filled with missions and secrets. The makers clearly had a love of past platformers and wanted to make a unique spin on the genre and they succeeded. On the other had, the writing is awful. Very season 1 South Park/ Early 2000's Newgrounds edgelord humor. The game tries to be tounge in cheek by acknowledging this within its dialogue, but it still falls flat. I personally am not offended by the game at all, but I could see it leaving a bad taste in some people's mouths. I'd say rule of thumb is that if you liked Conker's Bad Fur Day, you'll like this game. The jokes probably would've worked better on me in junior high.
