This is the most fun I've had with a game all year and it surpassed my expectations in many ways, but at the same time it was deeply underwhelming when it comes to everything regarding writing, which admittedly is the least important factor for me.

The game feels very oddly constrained and confusing regarding its narrative in a way no other game in the series struggles, but it offers an exciting new formula for the series in terms of structure. It has the most complete, fun and well balanced version of the press turn system in the series as well, so it turned out to be a delight to play through; every second was enjoyable.

I'm excited about the prospect of another entry in the series that plays similarly to this but has a better realized story and cast. It's not hard to imagine that all these issues were product of the team having to accustom themselves to UE4 development and coming up with a new formula too, so here's hoping.

Exactly this. I really really hope ATLUS actually continues to work with UE4, now that they have all these processes and models working great on the engine. It doesn't help that this was also ATLUS' first time doing a simultaneous world-wide release on top of COVID slowing development down. I really hope this is the start of a new Golden Era for MegaTen.
