This is a classic game that will always hold a place in my heart. Originally getting it on PS4 this game has followed me around for years. Only now in 2022 did I finally finish the game and complete the final mission.

In replaying the game, I found that the first 3 prisons were great and I really enjoyed them. They offer the most freedom in ways to escape which is great and they aren't too difficult to do especially without a guide.

However in the next prisons weren't great, they get extremely specific in how you must escape. Good luck on doing them without a guide. The game also slowly becomes more and more of a grind. Once the nostalgia wore off I was having less and less fun.

It's still a great achievement to finish the game despite this however. The game-play mechanics are nice and each prison feels unique. The music is also amazing.

After 24.4 hours, I feel kinda sick of the game and I doubt I'll be playing it again this decade.

You probably won't be wanting the DLC after completing the main game and the Steam Workshop is filled with horseshit boring prisons. However, it can be fun to mess around in the level editor for an hour.

Compared with the second game. The second game is multiplayer and has a lot more features and prisons. However, the Escapists 2 is a lot easier in fact it feels too easy compared to this game. This game is brutal, too brutal.

Overall. This is a unique experience even if you've played the Escapists 2. You'll enjoy this game, especially if you like puzzle games. I definitely recommend playing the first 3 prisons without a guide, however you'll be shooting yourself in the skull if you try to play the last 3 without a guide (however it does become a grind at that point).
Overall 7/10 w/ nostalgia and 5/10 w/o it.
