As with any Sonic release, there's a lot of pros and a lot of cons. As a fan of these classic style Sonic games I was happy overall. Some quick thoughts:

Pros:
-Classic Sonic physics are the most accurate they've ever been in 2.5D

-There were actually some challenging parts to the game. Was refreshing to play a Sonic game that actually was brave enough to challenge the player.

-Level design in the main campaign was pretty good overall. Not quite Mania level but pretty well done. Level gimmicks keep it mostly fresh, there are a couple duds (Press Factory Act 1 mostly).

-Half the soundtrack is amazing

-Pretty decent visuals. There are certainly prettier 2D platformers out there but I thought they did their job. The character animations looked great and I appreciated the level variety.

Cons:
-Bosses go on WAY too long. I'm okay with not being able to cheese them like in the older games, but at least speed up the transitions and animations. Bosses i-frames last too long as well, let a skilled player sneak in a second hit if they can swing it.

-Half the soundtrack is disappointing. No cohesiveness, you can tell separate composers worked on different parts of the soundtrack in a really jarring way.

-Story, while not a big deal to me, made absolutely no sense. Even if you watch the pre-release animated short. Almost felt like Eggman didn't even need to be in this game. Secret final boss could have used a bit more explanation.

-Enemy/spike placement was evil in parts Trip's story. I like a challenge but damn lol.

-Bugs. Mostly issues with the PC version. I think most of my problems came with a higher refresh rate above 60hz. Spin dash would not charge properly and felt useless at times. The menus were buggy as well. Graphics settings did not save or were grayed out consistently. Selecting "Start game" would pull up the options menu. Sometimes after selecting "Start game", the game would never leave the title screen and would need to be force quit.
