I played this as part of the Master Collection, and honestly, despite the soul-crushing difficulty and the fact I needed a guide to play it, this was a fantastic 8-bit game. I need to play more older games, but I truly appreciate this one. I don't understand why it has so many middling to negative reviews on Backloggd.
