I get it, it's the first one so of course it's going to be rough and primitive compared to what came after but I struggled to get any enjoyment out of this even after learning that Toad and Koopa are the only characters worth a damn and how to counter-steer, just found it frustrating.
Got to Rainbow Road and shelved it, if you want a good SNES racing game just stick to the original F-Zero.
