This game was so fun start to finish. Easily the most hyped I've been both leading up to and playing through a game in a while. The story is easily the weakest aspect, sadly, that being such a vital part to the original games success. Miles as a character is sidelined heavily - which I didn't entirely hate since I never really loved Insomniac Miles (since it's very obvious he's written by white people) - but it's surprising, considering Peter's characterization in this story is easily one of the worst interpretations of the character, not only to video games, but to media outside of comic books in general. It's not something that bothered me all too much on my first play through, as the hype of the games story beats distracts from the poor plot, pacing, and writing, but the games ending leaves you feeling like something is lacking. While the story was a major downgrade, the gameplay can be seen as a massive step up. Traversal is fun and makes the last two entries in the series feel janky in comparison. Combat is also improved, but with both, the biggest problem is that Peter's gameplay is altered heavily to match the simplified special moves introduced in the Miles Morales 2020 release. It makes traversal and combat more varied, however it detracts from the grounded approach that the first game was praised for. Personally, I do favor gameplay over story, and the gameplay does elevate the story beats to a degree that the story's lacking qualities aren't all too noticeable until the end. Overall, a great game. Story isn't as good as the first one, sadly, but it was pure fun 100% of the way through. Post game is fine.
