The Final Shape is one of the most visually immersive gaming experiences I’ve had. It’s diverse set of locations are full of gorgeous vistas and ominous iconography, with the player never able to get too far away from the main antagonists influence as result of frequent visual reminders contrasting with expansive landscapes and coalescing with claustrophobic caves. This visual spectacle and intrigue combined with the engaging and thought provoking narrative helped to keep me immersed throughout the campaign. The story itself is fantastic, challenging the relationship and morality of the game’s protagonists, though I would’ve liked to learn more about the main antagonist and saving the game's true ending for the raid led to an underwhelming conclusion to the campaign.

In terms of gameplay, the Final Shape is a solid offering with some great platforming sequences, new enemy types and set pieces. Though I did find the new prismatic class to be a bit gimmicky in how some enemies are invincible until you activate an ability, and the final boss was a bit underwhelming. However, the campaign was extremely well paced, relying less on generic world exploration to pad out it’s length, as has been the case with some previous expansions, instead littering the experience with memorable missions which drive the narrative forward.

I was really impressed with the Final Shape. Bungie’s world building, level design and storytelling are sublime. And while the campaign has its flaws, it’s hard not to be impressed by the fruition of all these years of iteration by Bungie to turn the mediocre original Destiny experience into an incredibly high quality FPS offering.
