Gameplay is very fun, a lot of cool mechanics that makes units unique but still interchangeable.

Story is ok.. I did the golden route because I hardly replay games, let alone games with such poor pacing - the narrator in this game often just repeats what literally happened two seconds before. It's odd, and worse, it's slow as fuck. Cutscenes are plenty and they drag as it is.
The game also chucks side stories at random(?), those often lead to nowhere as they attempt to build an arc for side characters who spend 90% of the game mute and only interact with the core group or seldom a villain. it kills ths pacing.

Anyways, it's serviceable. The world is a bit empty, there are 3 countries with like 5 cities between them. Some of the characters are likeable but most of them don't pop.

Voice acting I think has no place in a game like this but maybe it's a boomer take.

I don't like it that the "true" ending is hidden, it works in context of the game but the concept is redundant in this day.
On the same note, revealing convictions modifiers only after you beat the game is a shitty move.

When you get to actually play the game it's good - there are varied levels, you can burn fields, zap water sources. One character can call storms to enhance lightning and throw off archers. There are a lot of cool mechanics like these. It's too bad the game won't let you play with all the toys in one play through - you can't unlock all of your characters abilities in one run, let alone get all of them in your first go. I understand locking plot units behind your choices, but the randos coming in with little rhyme or reason is odd.

There's is little to no farming as characters level very fast and you keep your experience even if you fail a level - this is a great boon for the genre!

I could do without the conviction system, I get that it's the main shtick but it just padding, you make numbers go up by playing the game.

This review is all over the place but so is this game. Fans of tactics games will have a good time with it. It's not as endearing as FFT or Tactics Ogre but the modernized gameplay gives TS a fair edge.
