Five nights at Candy’s 3 is regarded as the best game in the series.

I don’t see it.

It’s better than FNAC 2, but it’s far from being as good as the original.

FNAC 3 suffers from the same problems I have with Fnaf 4. The gameplay never changes, and you do the same thing for the entire game. You look around the room for the rat. Once you hear him you flash your light on him before he enters the room. Eventually, he’ll get in so you have to play this minigame where you have to keep your light on his face to stop him from killing you. Once you win he’ll go under your bed. You then need to check under to see which side he’s on. After that, you then go out from there and wait on the opposite side of the bed until he makes a sound and flash your flight on him before he kills you.

Sounds complicated on paper right? Well, it is. It took forever for me to understand how everything worked. The first night is easily the best in the game due to this. Since you’re still getting used to how the game works Monster Rat is truly intimidating. Of course, once you figure out how to play, the game falls apart. You have to do the same sequence of actions for every encounter with Monster Rat. It was monotonous, and I got bored after a while. They try to spice up the game by introducing another enemy called Monster Cat, but he’s not a threat in the slightest. You have to flash your light on him when appears next to your bed. You’re already flashing your light through the entire room when you're looking for Monster Rat, so the Cat doesn’t add anything. Monster Cat is only a threat when he appears while Monster Rat is attacking you, which feels unfair since all your attention needs to be on Monster Rat to stop him from killing you.

Oh, there’s another enemy I haven’t mentioned. He’s exclusive to night 6 and is treated as the final boss of the game. He’s either unfairly brutal to deal with or an absolute joke if you use an exploit to win. He’s Monster Rat, but ten times harder and quicker. When you have to keep the flashlight on his face he’ll jump around and move his head to make it difficult to flash him. If the light gets off his face you instantly lose. It feels impossible. Thankfully due to an oversight, you can just stare at the door and win the entire night. As long as you don’t look at him he can’t attack you. This oversight turns this night into a joke.

There is one gameplay mechanic that I love. The game gives you a tape recorder that you can use to speed up the night. It comes at a cost. The music can make it difficult to hear Monster Rats' audio cues. And if Monster Rat gets under the bed while it’s on he’ll sabotage it forcing you to fix it before you can use it again. It also can be stolen. I don't know what causes it to happen but you are not able to use it for the rest of the night. I love the tape recorder system. I wish it was used in a better game.

There is one thing I love about this game that makes it slightly better than Fnaf 4, the story. Our player character Mary is suffering from nightmares due to a traumatizing incident that happened at the Cat and Rat theater. In between nights, you have these Yume Nikki inspired segments where you have to explore Mary’s mind to learn more about the theater and what happened. These are easily the best parts of the game. I love exploring Deepscape, there are so many things to find, like newspaper articles that help you learn more about the Rat and Cat theater, and arcade machines that unlock minigames. These in between sections of the game are the best parts of the game.

Five nights at Candy’s 3 is overall an meh game with a decent story that makes up for it. I recommend checking it out at least once for the Deepscape portions of the game.
