Frictional Games Ranked

My Ranking of Frictional Games titles. I have never been into hide and seek horror games, where you can't defend yourself but Frictional know how to make an interesting horror game and there easily one of my favorite developers! Not including DLCs or add ons, as I'm just talking about their main game releases. I have attatched notes to each game, explaining my feelings on them.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Frictional's horror masterpiece and I will die on this hill! I have never been into hide and seek horror games where you can't defend yourself against the enemies, but this game just really vibed with me, as it still has the resource managment of any classic Survival Horror game! I also loved the story and the oppressive atmosphere that makes you feel so tense while exploring Castle Breneburg.

Soma
Soma
Easily the best story Frictional ever did, with its gripping characters and themes. I absolutely loved playing through this, with the only issue being its lack of gameplay mechanics or resource management.

2

Amnesia: The Bunker
Amnesia: The Bunker
The best gameplay Frictional has ever done, with actual weapons and combat but also tons of ways to solve puzzles and obstacles. This game invites you to experiment and its highly replayable! Only issue is the story is kind of lacking.

3

Penumbra: Overture
Penumbra: Overture
A fun first game from Frictional! It plants the seeds for many of the ideas for Frictional's later titles. It does have awful combat, but its still a good horror game.

4

Penumbra: Black Plague
Penumbra: Black Plague
Bit of a disappointing conclusion after playing Overture. It does get rid of the awful combat but the puzzles are just so damn obtuse and annoying to solve.

5

Amnesia: Rebirth
Amnesia: Rebirth
I was really excited going into this one after playing the Dark Descent and how this game tried to go back to that original gameplay formula. Emphasis on "tried". I just did not like this game at all. The story and setting was just very boring to me and I found it to be very disappointing. They do bring back the resource managment after it being missing in A Machine for Pigs, but its not balanced well as the matches run out way too quickly, as does the oil for your lantern. Also the sanity mechanic was more of a nuisance in this game as you run out of light so quickly and if your character gets too stressed out, they run around like an idiot until you eventually wake up somewhere else. Really stupid.
