I think this game is a worthy sequel to the original Overlord, with the same fun Pikimin-like real time strategy gameplay and dark humor. The graphics look pretty good for 2009, and I think they look pretty decent even today, although some of the animations especially facial can be pretty bad, but I think there’s a certain charm in lower quality animations in silly games such as this. The music in my opinion is much better than in the first Overlord, I think that game had good soundtrack, but this one is filled with bangers. If I had to offer criticism, one would be the Overlord’s movement feels clunky thanks to the new fancy turning animations, it just doesn’t feel quite smooth to move around. The missions where you have to subdue or kill 100 people in cities don’t feel rewarding or satisfying, not to mention it can get difficult to locate the remaining citizen which can be annoying. The camera oftentimes likes to freak out when I try to sweep minions with a mouse, usually pointing in the wrong direction or just not moving, which I don’t remember happening before but it’s been a while since I replayed this game, so it was probably an issue day one. That being said it didn’t stop me from replaying this game quite a number of times when I was younger, less than the first game mainly because I played this one much later. Nevertheless, I think this game still holds up pretty well, if offers fun gameplay, decent visuals, trademark dark humor and amazing soundtrack. It’s no wonder why I’ve replayed these games as much as I did.
