Truly an interesting game. I like the mahou shoujo Genre a lot (Madoka Magica being my favorite) so I was honestly pretty excited to finally dive into this RPG. Overall while it had its ups so much held it back from hitting that high score for me and in the end I thought the game was just fine I enjoyed it enough to plat trophy the game and didn't feel like I wasted my time doing so.
I will avoid getting into the story for very obvious reasons but I will say the story itself is what kept me going and the climax + ending was very good and overall made the experience worth it for me. The combat itself while fun is the first issue I had with this game in which the game was simply so easy that I never once had to think about what to do I just found what skills would work and would simply spam them throughout the game in which this game gave me 0 difficulty. How you level up in this game isn't through EXP but its actually done through the relationships you create with the characters in the game through dialogue choices and so on and because of this you can get insanely over leveled very quickly and it will kill all difficulty with the game. So due to all that the combat itself became VERY repetitive by the end and almost felt like a chore to me lol which isn't a good feeling. Past that the questing SUCKS so much in this game mainly the side quests as they are all literally the same exact type of quests that does not change up at all throughout your playthrough. And to end this segment the bosses also sucked there was nothing special about them and would show up only during very specific points in the story so most of your time you are actually not even fighting actual bosses you are just fighting 2 or more level bosses at once so by the time I got to an actual big boss fight I would get disappointed each time as it was either a boring fight or literally a recycled boss fight.
For me where this game shines is in its story and characters that you learn to love and care for throughout the story. I just wish they could have thought-out the leveling system a bit more or maybe upped the difficulty a bit more to make it more challenging because I really feel like something special is there that was simply held back by its combat, side quests and bosses.
yes there also is the controversial camera shots and "rain" segments that reveal a little to much of these women guarding the fact they are in highschool lol. So yeah it is weird but hey if you know anything about Gust then you know how they are so how you feel about it really is up to you because it is weird but it doesn't really hurt the game itself past making you say "why ?" a few times.
With all that said I still overall enjoyed my time with this game and while I wouldn't recommend it at full price if you find the game cheap on sale on the PSN store or steam I say give it a go its a good story with an OKAY gameplay loop. Don't even think about buying a physical copy as this game goes for $130+ now for PS4 lol so stick to digital unless you want to cough up over $100 for a disc.
